Living With Great Style

mantle: which one do you adore?

While I was in Carmel this past weekend I was in awe of my aunt and uncles renovated home because they still get to work with a blank canvas. All I could think of were the design possibilities that they have in their future. One of my favorite new elements is the large family room, which has a beautiful fireplace and with it’s minimalist mantle it was perfection. It got me thinking about what I would do if I had a mantle – would I keep it minimalist or make it more personal with a bunch of flea market treasures? I’m not quite sure, but there are so many possibilities. How would you decorate your mantle? Or if you have one, how did you decorate it? Chime in!

While the fourth one looks more like a table than a fireplace, that's definitely my favorite. I love the giant gold mirror! Although the fifth one looks much more like something I'd have…with all the keepsakes and color.
Ah if only I had a fireplace!

  • Will @ Bright.Bazaar says:

It has to be number one for me because I have a black wall in my bedroom at home!

  • Emma at The Marion House Book says:

It would have to be #4. I just included it in a list of my favorite interiors!

  • Hilary Inspired says:

Ok, this one is going to be tough. I love the first mantle for it's beautiful architectural details… and against that black wall, swoon!! But I also love #4 because of it's unexpected and abstract nature… the huge gold mirror, contemporary lines, and white Kelly Wearstler-esque accessories make it a very close second!

I DIE over fireplaces and love them in all forms, If I had to rank, I'd put them like this: 1,2,3,5,4! :)

I love #1 but maybe I just love the contrast of the dark charcoal walls to the white fireplace.

I guess I will be the odd person out and say #2! I am partially bias since my whole house consists of black and white with accents of colors.

    Number one for me! Lovely.

For my home I love number 3. BUT if I lived in a beautiful country estate, number 1!

  • Bridget says:

oooo – 1, 3 and 5. Stunning. I love 5 especially – it looks chic but like it really could be in my home!

  • The Vintique Object says:

I love the simplicity and contrast of number three but would mix it with the gilded mirror of number four. I just really like a mirror above the fireplace since it reflects everything across the room.

#5 for me! That corner of the room just looks so cozy and well lived in. I want to curl up on the chair with one of those magazines!

I love #5 – I've always loved the idea of a wall of polaroids!

  • Daniella says:
