Ahhhhh, Friday is here. It’s been quite a windswept week – literally . . . the fog has been sticking around our neighborhood which means it has been frigid. The only positive thing about it is that I could break out my new fall boots. I can’t wait for tomorrow because my cousin is moving up to San Francisco and is going to my alma-mater. A new chapter of her life is beginning and I remember how excited, nervous and overjoyed I was to go to a school where I knew nobody and it was in a big city. There isn’t anything like it, do you remember that first day of moving in? If you have any advice for her leave a comment and I’ll pass along the tips.
I hope all of you have a fabulous weekend!
xx, Caitlin

If I have any advice for her it’s embrace the scary parts! They play a huge role in defining you and your abilities. And they’re often the most rewarding
Happy weekend Caitlin!
I was lucky enough to have some older cousins in DC when I moved here for college. They kindly invited me over for dinner once a semester for a home cooked meal. It was always such a treat! Have a great weekend, Caitlin!
That’s great your cousin is moving to the city! While there are lots of tips about university I could share based on what my experiences were, I would encourage her to not underestimate the value of relationships with professors in her field of interest. One of my professors is still a mentor to me and has always been there for advice or recommendation letters. I wish I had developed better relationships with some of the other professors as well.
Fro Yo from a liquor store and 30 minute field trips to Jenny Lowe’s. Duh. 🙂
the best advice someone gave me was to introduce yourself to everyone you meet in college (and make a serious effort to remember their name as well). the first few weeks are critical in establishing friendships and finding your niche, and you never know who you might really connect with. don’t judge and be nice to everyone! she’ll feel at home sooner than she knows it.
