Living With Great Style

On the Hunt: Dining Room Chairs

A great way to avoid having a home that looks cookie-cutter is to make sure there is a mix of both old and new. What better way to do this than mixing modern and vintage chairs at your dining room table.

On The Hunt : Chairs Inspiration | Sacramento Street1.) Burke Tulip Chairs

2.) Mid-Century Modern Arm Chair

3.) Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams Armchairs

4.) Knoll Tulip Chairs

5.) Stratham Mid-Century Modern Loveseat

6.) Nicos Zographos Chairs

At my table I have four modern chairs with sheepskins on the seat to add a bit of comfort. In between these chairs, I’ve added two vintage bentwood chairs from Spain.

Another trick is to have a loveseat on one side of the table. Not only is this a comfortable option, but it helps to make your dining room warm and inviting.

Finally, why not have an upholstered chair at each end of the table? I guarantee it will draw you in and you’ll linger with a good book and a cup of tea. These easy ideas can be the difference in a dining room never being used or a place you enjoy and choose to use.

One of my go-to places for unique items is Chairish. This is a site you want to use often, as the merchandise is always changing. You can find a unique set of chairs to mix with those you already have. And before you know it, you’ll want to hang in the often-overlooked dining room.

In my eyes, you can never have too many candleholders. I use them for just about event dinner party and around our house. They cast a beautiful light that makes dinner parties feel magical and a cozy evening indoors special. There is probably a candle being burned at all hours in our house.

On The Hunt : Candles

1.) Recycled Glass Pillar Candle Holder

2.) Grey Opaque Glass Honeycomb Lantern

3.) Clear Glass Teardrop Lantern Candleholder

As we see a glimmer of hope that spring might be around the corner I’ve pulled together a handful of my must haves for this season that can be used both inside and outside – weather permitting of course! Buy a handful as an excuse to throw a big dinner party with friends. Afterwards you can style them around the house for a new look on your mantle or coffee table.

Check out my favorites over on World Markets blog that will have you inspired to throw a dinner party this weekend!

I know that I’m not alone when I tell all of you that I have an obsession with throw blankets. It’s a problem. I seem to find one where ever I go – whether it’s from traveling, or my go-to shop – I’ll find an excuse for needing it. I tell myself “this would be the perfect addition to that stack on my bookshelf” or “the corner chair needs a new throw to give it an update” or “this would be the perfect picnic blanket.” While I do this with other things as well, throw blankets are a weakness for me  can you blame me?

2.) Blue Surf and White Chevron Throw

3.) Brown Faux Fur Throw

Since I’ve been on the hunt for a couple throws for a few friends and clients who have been asking, I came across an handful from World Market that I truly love. This grey number is now my car blanket. Whether you are looking for a throw for your living room, bedroom or family room – pop over to check out the rest of my picks over on the World Market blog.

One of the easiest ways to update your home (or a room in your home) is with a couple of beautiful new throw pillows. Whenever I’m in the mood to change things up I always start with the pillows. It’s the easiest and most cost effective purchase for an instant transformation to any room. I’m having the urge to do something updating right now.World Market Pillows

A Tree Decorating Party with Treetopia

IMG_4700

What better way is there to kick off the holiday season than with an old-fashioned tree decorating party? It’s time to gather your girlfriends (or loved ones), heat up the a pot of hot cocoa and put on some of your favorite holiday tunes. This is truly one of my favorite times of year. I invited over Jeanne from Shop Sweet Things and Crystal from Rue Magazine for some quality time to catch up about our holiday plans and get advice from Jeanne about motherhood – both Crystal and I are expecting. Plus, who wouldn’t want to spend a fun-filled afternoon surrounded by Christmas cheer!

Last year, some of you may remember that I partnered up with Treetopia to decorate my first artificial tree. I was in awe of the beauty of their trees. It looked like a real tree and we didn’t have to worry about the messy needles, watering or most importantly, getting bugs in the house. When we cleaned up Christmas last year it was so hassle free that both Eric and I were converted.

Fast forward a year – We took out last year’s tree and decided that we could’ve gone a bit larger with the tree. That’s when I decided to partner with Treetopia again to get a new tree. We went from having a seven foot tree to a nine foot tree. I never thought we’d have a tree this big but let me tell you, after putting it up, I can’t imagine anything smaller.

When it comes to food, make sure you have nice bite sized treats that your guests can enjoy while decorating. Amanda, our food editor put together a beautiful spread – crostinis, a dessert trio and cheese puffs. We’ll be sharing each recipe this month for you to enjoy and make for any holiday party you are hosting or attending. All of them are easy!

Decorating a tree can be quite a task – that’s why we wanted to gather friends to help with this occasion (especially with me being 9 months pregnant)! The art to hosting a tree decorating party is just few simple steps.
