Girlfriends’ Valentine’s Brunch (and a Giveaway!)

Valentine’s day is right around the corner and although you might be making plans with your honey, sometimes it can be about showing your friends that you care about them!! This year I decided to host a little soiree to celebrate a special group of girlfriends that have supported me this year – close friends and our Sacramento Street contributors (a new lovely lady debuting next week!). Minted was kind enough to provide a Valentine’s Day party in a box, which was perfect for the occasion – striped straws, signs, colorful paper goods for the table, and tags.

It was fun dreaming up this girlie-girl tabletop – a bit out of my normal (neutral colored) comfort zone but it definitely had to happen for this Valentine’s Day brunch. My essentials for any brunch tabletop – clean cut tulips from the grocery store, bright linen napkins, candy in the colors your decorating the table with and lastly, a fun drink to serve guests as they arrive (in this case blood orange soda with prosecco).

One of my favorite things to do for parties is to have something special for guests – in this case, I worked with Minted on creating personalized journals for each of my girlfriends. It was fun to add them to the tabletop as their place card.

When you combine love, laughter and amazing friends around a table, there really isn’t anything better! This brunch made me realize I need to host more parties to celebrate the girlfriends I love.

Minted.com Art Wall REVEALED + a Giveaway

Remember when Joslyn, Erin and I revealed our Minted.com Art Wall challenge and the prints our husbands picked out? – In my case it was the Lovebirds by Rene Mijares. Well, I had to end up creating a “small space” art wall with the prints I selected to go with the Lovebirds piece. It was a blast looking through all of the amazing pieces on Minted. In the end, I decided that a total of three prints would fit perfectly above my couch, which needed a little re-design anyway. It has had the same look for over a year now. I decided to go with a large sized abstract piece called Radiance and then a smaller photo called Runaway that reminded me of the beautiful bay that surrounds us. Now for the big reveal . . . .

I’m thrilled with the way my art wall turned out. It completely freshened up my living room space. Now the fun begins for you – Minted wanted to give one lucky reader their very own piece of art for their home. Pretty awesome, right?

GIVEAWAY! $100 for Holiday Cards at Minted

Last year, Eric and I couldn’t decide whether or not to send out a holiday card and by the time we wanted to send one, it was far too late. That’s why when November rolled around this year I jumped at the chance to design our first holiday card. The first stop I made was Minted.

After looking through hundreds of designs, I decided to go with the design that Jenna Lyons picked out as the winner of the holiday design contest. When you purchase this design, Minted will donate 15% of gross profit from the sales of Etched to Teach For America. “Minted believes in enabling the growth, creativity, and careers of independent designers. Teach For America’s mission is to build the movement to eliminate educational inequity by enlisting our nation’s most promising future leaders in the effort.”

There are thousands of designs to choose from and there is definitely something for everyone. I can’t wait to see what all of you pick as your favorite. I’m off to go assemble and address mine!

minted giveaway!

Back in February, I was asked to be a judge on Minted to pick my favorite baby or bridal shower invitation. Being a paper/stationary-aholic I jumped at the opportunity. After sifting through hundreds and hundreds of beautiful designs the one that stood out the most was called “Umbrella of Advice” designed by the lovely Carrie O’Neal.

What drew me to this baby shower invite was the use of beautiful typefaces and the vintage feel of the umbrella. Growing up my mom would give me old French books from flea markets to do crafts with – this brought back a lot of those memories. I’m hoping I can use this invitation for the next baby shower I host!

Tomorrow all of the shower invitations that won from this design challenge will be up for sale. I couldn’t be more excited for all of these amazing designers that put so much time into these invitations.

february showers design challenge by minted

This month I’m honored to be guest judging the Minted Design Challenge along with Erin from Design for Mankind and Meg from A Practical Wedding. Let me just tell you, I’m overwhelmed and blown away with the amazingness that is already flooding in – it’s going to be quite a challenge to pick my favorite. With only ten days left to submit your unique shower invitations for brides, moms-to-be or couples either getting married or having a baby, you better get designing readers! I know there are TONS of creative people out there that need to start designing.

These are just a few that I’m loving right now, but I have a feeling we’ll be getting tons more submissions in the next couple of days that I’ll be going gaga over. Hope to see all of you over on Minted! Let the creative juices start following!
