Living With Great Style

New Year, New Inspirations

All of us have a different way at looking at the New Year. I think of it as a time to reset myself and my intentions, so I can see what needs to stay and what needs should potentially go. There are new goals to achieve and new inspirations to be had. The most important thing for me this year is to take leaps of faith but to remember to not make unrealistic goals because there are so many more years to come. With that being said, here are my goals and inspirations for 2013.

Travel both near and far.

Getting on a plane or in a car gets my heart racing. It’s the unknown that lies ahead – not knowing what will happen, what I’ll see and what will inspire me. This year there are already adventures planned that I’m excited to embark upon.

Remember to breath.

Okay, I know this sounds silly but honestly being 100% freelance has me going, going and going none stop. I need to remember to shut my computer, step away and get recharged. It will only help me focus and get inspired with the city around me.

Forget the comparisons.

It’s hard to not compare yourself to others and I know I shouldn’t, but I do. There are always going to be smarter and more talented individuals out there but I have to remind myself to focus on what I’m talented at and what my strengths are that help me. If I focus on that I will grow as a person.

Cherish our home.

Both Eric and I have dream about having a larger apartment in the city, but quite honestly we realized that we’re lucky to have a home that is beautiful and in a neighborhood that we love. This year, we’re going to cherish the space we have and save for our next home, even if it means living in a small space for a few more years.

Enjoy the simple things.

This is something I’ve been embracing for a while. It’s all about the little moments that we sometimes overlook that mean the most. Whether it’s going for a walk around the neighborhood, making dinner at home with Eric, or getting to know the check out girl at my local grocery store – these things makes me realize I’ve built a life that I love.

Keep dreaming big.

Starting out this year working for myself is an amazing feeling. The fact that I’m mapping out my own path with new business ideas (which are launching in the near future), collaborating on fun projects, and that I have a lot of ideas I want to work on, is the perfect way to start out a new year. When I was little my parents told me that you should love what you do and to always dream big. I’ve definitely been following that advice in 2013. There is no better time to do this!

So, now that I’ve shared my goals for 2013, what are your goals? Have you made any small or big resolutions? I’d love for you to share!

Happy New Year!

As 2012 comes to a close, I look back and cannot believe how much was accomplished. From installing beautiful projects I’m very proud about, to styling photo shoots, to redesigning Sacramento Street and then ending the year by taking a huge leap and going out on my own. It’s been quiet a remarkable year. Thank you all for coming here to get inspired and the support you’ve given me this past year. Sacramento Street wouldn’t be the same without you.

Get ready for 2013 here on Sacramento Street. There will be new columns, tons of inspiration and maybe a few new contributors. Later this week I’ll be sharing a few of my many goals for 2013 and I’d love for you to share your goals as well. Do you have any goals or resolutions written down yet?

I hope all of you have a wonderful start to the New Year!

xx, Caitlin

a brand new year!

As I jump head first into 2012, I’m incredibly excited for new chapter and year to begin. You never know what life will bring you every year. I’ve got to say, 2011 was filled with taking a leap into a new career, getting our home published, and most importantly, it was filled with lots of love and laughter from friends and family.

Each and every year when everyone is thinking of resolutions I sit down to write down goals I’d like to accomplish. It begins with a tiny list and as the January weeks pass by it becomes pages and pages long. It’s something I’ve always enjoyed doing because I can look back and see what I wanted to do, where my path might have changed and what I’ve accomplished.

What are your goals for 2012? I wish all of you a fresh start to a wonderful new year. May it be filled with love, happiness and success!

paths to cross in 2011

Looking back at 2010 all I can think is “could it get any better?” Well, of course it can, but it was a darn good year – I accomplished every single goal I set for myself and much more. I believe that 2011 will be filled with dreams that haven’t been discovered, new places to travel to and challenges that will help me grow. The excitement of what is going to come in the months ahead are enlightening.

*Travel to somewhere new with my wonderful mom (Savannah, Santa Fe, Istanbul – I don’t know, but we have to go somewhere together this year).

*Adopt a puppy when Eric and I are ready.

*Keep filling our apartment with beautiful blooms from the flower market. It’s amazing how something so simple can bring you such joy.

*Get my apartment published in a magazine.

*Continuing to build Sacramento Street into the creative and inspiring place for myself and my readers.

*Keep designing each and everyday in order to build my portfolio.

*Continue to grow my sponsors.

*Finally, try to get our wedding photographs published on one of the wedding blogs that helped inspire me when I was getting married.

*Go to bed twenty minutes earlier so I have time to read wonderful novels.

*Spend more time with my girlfriends – they are my support system and even when we’re all busy with our lives we need to get together for some girl time.

*Keep cooking at home during the week, but learn at least one new recipe each week.

*Most importantly, spend more time with Eric – whether it’s lounging at home, discovering new parts of San Francisco or traveling together.

What are your goals for 2011? I wish all of you a wonderful fresh and fabulous start to a new year!

a toast to 2011

I love this. I came across it a week ago here and just had to save it for today. This past year has been incredible – it’s been filled with a lot of milestones. Married the love of my life, I learned to take a chance on new endeavors and follow my dreams. Most importantly, the challenges that came my way only helped me grow into the person that I am today.

First and foremost, I want to say thank you to all of my amazing readers – without you blogging wouldn’t be the same. You fill my soul with happiness everyday. Your comments and emails bring a smile to my face. And to the friends I’ve met this year through blogging, your friendship means the world to me. I cherish the friendships I’ve made and can’t wait to make even more next year!

I wanted to give a huge thank you to our incredible 2010 sponsors – each and every one of them are amazing companies. Bustle Event Design (getting married? email Erin asap!), Cottage Farm (beautiful housewares), Janezic (a fabulous clothing line) and Erica Tanov (a local Bay Area designer that inspires me every season). Their ongoing support means the world to me.

Cheers to 2011 – may it be filled with happiness, love, inspiration, and success!

Wish all of you a wonderful New Year!

xoxo, Caitlin
