After an incredibly productive week, today Eric and I are setting sail for our last getaway before baby Flemming arrives. We’re traveling up to Seattle to embark on a week-long cruise to Alaska. We cannot wait for the adventure that awaits! While this isn’t your typical babymoon, we wanted to go somewhere that was adventurous, but still relaxing. I can’t wait for our glacier helicopter ride and dogsledding. You can follow along on instagram for updates but I promise I’ll be sharing every detail when I return. And don’t worry, I have a whole line of amazing posts for next week!
In the meantime, pop over to these sites for some fabulous reads this weekend.
- I’m obsessing over this home tour over on Camille Styles.
- How adorable is this New Mom & Baby box? Simone did an amazing job with this gift box!
- Get an inside look into the RealReal offices.
- Love the way Jenny’s library bookshelves came together!
- When I get back from my trip I’ll be making this Fall Cornbread Panzanella salad.
*and a few fun things you may have missed!
- Looking to update your house a little bit? Throw pillows are always an easy way to do it.
- Natalie put together a stunning arrangement this month.
- I can’t wait for fall – I can’t wait for lots of layers and finding new scarves to wrap myself up in.
I hope all of you have a lovely Labor Day weekend!

Heaven on Earth is probably the best way to describe the Four Seasons Biltmore. We arrived on a gloomy and rainy day, which is rare for Santa Barbara, but the ocean was greeting us with its beauty. As we drove into the hotel driveway we were in awe of the beautiful architecture of the Spanish style hotel. It instantly brought back memories of my childhood in Mexico. Some of my favorite memories as a child are staying in haciendas with beautiful decor and history. The Biltmore is nestled in charming Montecito, which is just 10 miles south of Santa Barbara. As you wind your way through the beautiful resort you find yourself getting lost in the stunning gardens with magnolia trees, palm trees and flowers growing as far as the eye can see.
What makes the Biltmore unique are the breathtaking views of the ocean. The first night as we were trying to decide where to go for dinner, we walked through the stunning lobby and saw that the Bella Vista restaurant in the hotel had a front seat to watch the ocean as the sun was setting. How could we pass that up? After a breathtaking sunset we enjoyed homemade pasta that melted in our mouths. It was the perfect end to a our magical day.
The following day we enjoyed a casual walk by the ocean to get one last glimpse of our view. After we check out of the hotel we of course had to stop into our favorite shops in town – Rooms and Gardens, Diani, and Dressed in Santa Barbara and Botanik in Summerland. All of these are a must!
As we left to continue our road trip down to LA we agreed that another stay at the Biltmore was definitely in order – it was the perfect home away from home.

“Getaway” will be appearing on Sacramento Street to document my travels. I’m hoping to make it a monthly feature. If you have a favorite hotel in your city that you think should be featured please leave a comment or email me. I’ll be traveling a far amount in 2013 and hopefully it’ll be to a city you recommend!
After a wonderfully relaxing week in Portland with friends and family, we’re finally making the journey home to San Francisco. I’ll miss my mom’s delicious breakfasts, beautiful house and all the dinner parties we hosted, but I’m excited to bring all of our new Christmas goodies home. There might be some redecorating in my future . . . shhh, don’t tell Eric.
Hope all of you were able to spend quality time with loved ones this holiday season – it always fills my heart to see mine.
Last week, I featured some photos that got me in the island mood. So much so that I wanted to share some photos of the house we rented in Kauai. It was love at first sight when we found this little two bedroom house and we can’t wait to get there.
I can’t wait to cook dinners, relax read books and best of all it has a hot tub. I’ll share all of the details with you when we get back.
