After an incredible dinner a few weeks ago at Pizzeta 211 I've been on the hunt for simple and delicious pizza recipes to make at home. This one in particular caught my eye and I can't wait to give it a try this weekend!

Ingredients

1 1/2 ounces torn fresh mozzarella
1 ounce shredded part-skim mozzarella
1 ounce shredded fontina
1 tablespoon fresh parsley leaves
Pinch of red-pepper flakes
Basic Grilled Pizza Dough
Herb Oil

Directions

1. Heat it up: Set up a grill with heat source, coals or gas, on one side over medium-high. Clean and lightly oil hot grill.

2. Stretch it: On a lightly floured work surface, stretch or roll 1 piece basic grilled pizza dough or 4 ounces store-bought dough into a 10-inch-long oval or other desired shape. Brush one side lightly with herb oil or olive oil and season with coarse salt and ground pepper.

3. Grill it: Using your hands, place dough, oiled side down, directly over heat source. Brush dough with herb oil or olive oil and cook until underside is lightly charred and bubbles form all over top, 1 to 2 minutes. With tongs, flip dough and cook until lightly charred, 1 to 2 minutes. Slide dough to cooler side of grill.

4. Top it: Top with cheeses, parsley, and red-pepper flakes; cover grill. Cook until cheese melts and toppings are heated through, 2 to 5 minutes.

Morning! Rested and refreshed after a whirlwind week attending Alt Summit, it was wonderful coming home and waking up early to this feature in the San Francisco Chronicle. I was shocked at how large the feature ended up being in print (check out the online version here). I'm incredibly happy with the entire piece and all of your sweet and supportive comments on twitter, Facebook and instagram. It made my heart sing. Thank you friends!

This week I'm definitely starting it off with a skip in my step. Hope all of you have a lovely week ahead!

After an amazing week at Alt Summit today I'm packing up my bags and heading home. This years conference was inspiring - building even stronger bonds with my best friends, meeting new faces and learning tips and tricks that will definitely help me in the near future. on the menu: roasted broccoli and cauliflower soup

The past few days have been quite chilly here in San Francisco - I know that sounds crazy for all of you on the East Coast or Midwest, but for the Bay Area it feels cold. As I scoured to find a yummy soup to warm me up, this roasted broccoli and cauliflower soup caught my eye. It's the perfect combination. I have a feeling this will also make for delicious leftovers.

Bon appetit!

Ingredients:

1/3 cup olive oil
½ medium onion, chopped (about 1 cup)
2 heads broccoli with stems / 450g
½ head of cauliflower / 450g
4 cups chicken stock
1 cup water
1 teaspoon fresh thyme
1 teaspoon fresh parsley
3 cloves garlic, cut in half
2 teaspoons coarse salt
½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 cup non-fat greek yogurt

Directions:

Preheat oven to 425° F.
Cut broccoli and cauliflower into similarly sized pieces.
Place vegetables and spices in a large mixing bowl.
Drizzle oil over the vegetables and toss to coat completely.
Pour vegetables on a shallow baking sheet and roast for 25-30 minutes until somewhat soft and browned.
Allow vegetables to cool slightly. Remove some or all of the garlic.
Place half of the warm vegetables in a blender with 1 cup of stock to puree. Pour the puree into a pot. Repeat with the other half of the vegetables.
Add the remaining stock and water to the pot.
Bring soup to a boil and then reduce to simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
If firm pieces of vegetables remain, process the soup with a immersion blender.
Stir in the greek yogurt.
Serve warm.

After an amazing long weekend spending time with family, enjoying San Francisco's bright blue skies, moving my mom into her condo and having delicious meals filled with lots of laughter, I'm ready for the week ahead. I've been giddy about Alt Summit rapidly approaching - I cannot believe I'll be boarding a plane on Wednesday for Salt Lake. It's going to be fun seeing old friends and meeting new people. I have a feeling this week is going to be incredibly inspiring!

Everyone is always looking for a delicious treat to serve guests when hosting a dinner party - I know I'm constantly searching for something new. This recipe in particulr had my mouth watering by reading the title. Who doesn't love a twist on bruschetta? I know I do!

This is making an apperance later this week on our dinner table. Bon appetit everyone!

Ingredients:

* Grapes (use seedless purple grapes)
* Good rustic bread, sliced into 1/2-inch thick pieces
* Olive oil
* Homemade Ricotta Cheese
* Fresh Thyme
* Lemon Zest
* Fleur de Sel

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 450ºF. Spread grapes onto a sheet pan. Drizzle with olive oil. Sprinkle with salt. Lay thyme leaves over top. Toss all together gently with your hands. Place pan in the oven for 7 to 9 minutes or until grapes just begin to burst. I prefer the shorter roasting time — it’s nice when some of the grapes remain in tact.

2. Meanwhile, heat a grill or grill pan to medium-high. Brush the bread with olive oil. Grill until nice and toasty.

3. Assemble the open-faced sandwiches: Spread fresh ricotta over bread. Top with roasted grapes. Discard thyme sprigs. (While the thyme sprigs look pretty, it’s a little impractical to serve the sandwiches with the sprigs…they don’t taste so yummy.)

I had a fabulous weekend in LA that included getting together for brunch with the ever so lovely Peggy from bluepoolroad - she introduced me to Hong Kong Milk Tea (a cup of heaven) and Bottega Louie truffles, which are scrumptious. She then toured me around Silverlake with Jessica and Fallon - let's just say I was one luck lady to have these women as friends. Yesterday I went to the Rose Bowl flea market, it was a quick trip where I found the above brass candlesticks. I've got to say, it's interesting comparing the Rose Bowl to Alameda and I'd like to give my town some credit - it's by far my favorite out of the two . . . shhhhh don't tell anyone.

I'm excited to start a busy week of installing our new store front into Kendall Wilkinson - we'll be showcasing our Luxe room right here in San Francisco.

Cheers to a productive and seamless week with no hiccups!

Back in the beginning of October I fell in love with the decor that was featured in this photo - I immediately shared it with all of you in my "I'm Loving" post, but never explored finding the rest of the house.

Lucky for all of us, as I did my morning ritual of reading my favorite blogs on my iPad, I noticed that the lovely Jessica from Destined to Design posted about a home. The decor looked oddly familiar to the above photo and sure enough it was the entire home. The inner interior geek that I am got incredibly giddy and I couldn't pass up the chance to show you this incredibleapartment that mixes new construction with vintage finds.

Hope all of you adore this home as much as I do!

on the menu: poached egg over polenta with olive-herb pesto

With a new year under way I'm excited to drive into testing out new recipes every week. It's a goal I created for myself last year that I thoroughly enjoyed (Eric especially).

I've always loved poached eggs but have never made them at home. When I came across this recipe it made me want to test my ability to cook them. This is on our menu for later this week. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Enjoy!

For the pesto:

* 1/3 cup olive oil

* 1/2 cup green olives, coarsely chopped

* 1 cup fresh Italian parsley or basil, coarsely chopped (I used basil)

* 1/2 cup fresh oregano, coarsely chopped

* 1/2 cup fresh thyme, coarsely chopped

* Mix olives and fresh herbs in a medium-sized bowl. Stir in olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Mix until homogenous. Set aside.

For the polenta:

* 2 cups polenta

* 8 cups water (depending on how thick you like your polenta)

* 1/2 cup hard cheese, shredded (Parmesan or Grueyere are both great for this)

* 3/4 teaspoon salt

* Heat water in a large pot, when boiling, slowly pour in polenta. Lower the temperature to simmer and cook for about 20-25 minutes, until polenta has absorbed the water. Take pot off flame and stir in shredded cheese and salt. Season with salt and pepper. Cover and set aside until plating.

For the poached eggs:

* 4 eggs

* 1 teaspoon lightly-colored vinegar (any type will do, just not balsamic as it will color the eggs)

* salt

* Crack eggs into a small bowl, set aside. Heat another medium-sized pot with water, adding a sprinkle of salt and teaspoon of vinegar to water. When water is at a boil, slip the four eggs into the water bath, swirling with a spoon to help eggs form into solid shapes. Cook for about four minutes for a slightly runny center.

How to assemble the dish:

* ladle about 1 1/2 cups of the polenta into a large bowl, add an egg to each bowl, garnish with the olive-herb pesto. Serve with extra olive oil and lots of salt and pepper.

As I jump head first into 2012, I'm incredibly excited for new chapter and year to begin. You never know what life will bring you every year. I've got to say, 2011 was filled with taking a leap into a new career, getting our home published, and most importantly, it was filled with lots of love and laughter from friends and family.

Each and every year when everyone is thinking of resolutions I sit down to write down goals I'd like to accomplish. It begins with a tiny list and as the January weeks pass by it becomes pages and pages long. It's something I've always enjoyed doing because I can look back and see what I wanted to do, where my path might have changed and what I've accomplished.

What are your goals for 2012? I wish all of you a fresh start to a wonderful new year. May it be filled with love, happiness and success!

daily inspiration: apartment 34

Hello luvies! Erin from Apartment 34 here - and so tickled that Caitlin invited me to share my own inspiration vignette. I do hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

I'm currently reveling in treasures I received from family and friends over the holidays. They include a bevy of great coffee table books - I cannot stop flipping back and forth through 100 Years of Fashion Illustration. It's so amazing to see how times have and have not changed! I also received incredibly thoughtful gifts including the lovely rose gold necklace from Miss Caitlin herself, the gold painted paper mache bowl from Etsy (I'm using to hold a little collection of glass marbles that I love) and a 2012 calendar featuring water color images of Seattle, gifted by my mom. I think she wanted to make sure I don't forget where I'm from!

I'm also smitten with our holiday decor which includes a pair of stunning white candle sticks that I found in the Barneys home department (on sale!), a little bud vase and a vase full of magnolia branches that is sitting atop our coffee table. They add a touch of glamour and softness to the loft.

Here's to finding inspiration in what surrounds you!

daily inspiration: cheetah is the new black

Alicia from Cheetah is the New Black here and I'm extremely excited to be here on Savramento Street! Each and every week I look forward to Caitlin's Monday morning posts, today I'm sharing my own inspiration. Enjoy!

1. I'm constantly inspired by what I read and always enjoy WSJ Magazine which my Mom mails to me every month.

2. I'm also inspired by music and enjoy finding new bands and artists. I recently downloaded Spotify on my phone which has been rather life changing.

3. Being back in San Francisco for the holidays has given me a fresh perspective on the city I love so much. I've been indulging in all of my favorite hotspots including multiple cups of Blue Bottle Coffee.

4. I'm usually not a bright pink lipstick wearer but I can't get enough of this adorable Supercalifragilipstic! tube by Kate Spade. It's just so happy and cheerful.

5. Caitlin and I have a soft spot for Cris (a gem of a consignment store) on Polk Street where I picked up this rhinestone necklace last week. I think it has New Year's Eve potential!

6. Lastly, a fresh glittery gold manicure is necessary for both Christmas and New Years! I was impressed to find that only one coat of FACE Stockholm nail polish (found at J.Crew) is needed.

Morning Sacramento Street readers, Elise from Pennyweight here. The holidays may be just about over, but I love the scent of balsam fir in my home all winter long. I picked up this fir incense as a stocking stuffer for my husband, but selfishly got it for myself as well. I'm loving this beautifully packaged Saipua soap gifted to me by a dear friend. A few of my other favorite things... I recently subscribed to Brooklyn Magazine and adore the design and photography throughout. These earrings I purchased awhile ago from Jennifer of A Merry Mishap are still my favorites! I love their simplicity and soft color and have been wearing them throughout the week. This year has been unforgettable - it's definitely been all about following my heart and what I love. It's been an incredible ride. From finally feeling as though I've found my voice right here on Sacramento Street, to completely changing career paths - the love and support that I've got on both ends is priceless. I honestly didn't think that I'd be where I am today, and let me tell you, I've never been happier. Thank you all for always being there for me, you really don't know how much it means to me.

As this year closes, I'm ready to take on next years adventures - whatever they might be. I have a feeling it will be a wild ride.

Next week I've put together some fun posts with of few of my best friends here in the blogosphere - they will be sharing their personal inspiration boards similar to my monday morning posts. So if you're relaxing around a fire or laying on a beach, then pop back over to read their incredible posts. I want everything in the few I've received so far.

We're off to Portland to spend quality time with both my family and Eric's. I can't wait to sip hot chocolate, gather with loved ones and help my mom pack up our house (she's moving to SF!).

Pine cones are a holiday favorite of mine.

Love the modern twist this lighting gives this kitchen.

I'm all about black ensembles - they are perfect for day or night.

On the weekends, I keep it a little more casual with skinnies and a button-up. Then you can throw on your sunglasses and run out the door to complete errands.

This mantle has my heart swooning. The simplicity, neutral tones and decor are perfection.

The Art of Window Display

Since Bergdorf's is incredibly famous for their holiday windows I called upon Lauren and Christen of Material Lust to document the incredible windows. This post exceeded my expectations - they are stunning! Enjoy a little dose of holiday cheer.

For over two years David Hoey and the visual team behind the famous Bergdorf holiday windows have prepped for the fifteenth installment that lines Fifth Avenue. This year’s theme, The Carnival of the Animals takes the birds of ‘The Brass Menagerie’, the sea creatures of ‘Testing the Waters’, the zebras of ‘Teacher’s Pet’ and the polar bear of ‘Breaking the Ice’ into a lyrical setting of couture, antiques and detailed craftsmanship. Material Lust takes you up close to the art of window display.

Ten months in the making, this single window allows viewers to dip their toes in ‘Testing the Waters’ through a sea of hand cut Italian mosaic metallic waves, sequin coral and fish made by artist Brett Windham, and a seashell dress from the Alexander McQueen Spring 2012 collection.

Viewers then head to a colder setting 'arctic party' whose guests include a polar bear, a moose with silver leafed antlers and monkeys dressed with crystals and sequins. They surround the hostess who wears J. Mendel at a table of icicles and cakes of ‘Breaking the Ice.’

Layers of hammered brass and steel metal leaves against the vintage birds made by artist Sergio Bustamante, and a dress designed by Naeem Khan makes the window of ‘The Brass Menagerie.’

The teacher, dressed in a black and white lace Marchesa gown leads her class of a zebra, white peacock, ostrich and porcupine made of over 300 different pieces of paper and hand lettered labels by calligrapher Bernard Maisner for ‘Teacher’s Pet’.

Viewers then step inside the still life of the sculptor’s workshop filled with wooden figures and animal models that make up the concluding window, ‘Artists and Models.’

on the menu: roast carrot and avocado salad

Since lots of holiday dinner parties are in the works for the next week, I've been going through my recipe archives on pinterest to see if anything struck my fancy. This Roast Carrot and Avocado Salad sounds like it would be the perfect pairing with a hearty roast chicken or steak. There are so much options out there - how is one to choose?

Ingredients:

• 1 pound medium differently colored carrots, with their leafy tops

• 2 level teaspoons whole cumin seeds

• 1 or 2 small dried chillies, crumbled

• sea salt and freshly ground black pepper

• 2 cloves of garlic, peeled

• 4 sprigs of fresh thyme, leaves picked

• extra virgin olive oil

• red or white wine vinegar

• 1 orange, halved

• 1 lemon, halved

• 3 ripe avocados

• red wine vinegar

• 4 x ½-inch-thick slices of ciabatta or other

• good-quality bread

• 2 handfuls of interesting mixed winter salad leaves (like Treviso, arugula, radicchio or cavolo nero tops), washed and spun dry

• 2 bunches of cress

• 2⁄3 cup of sour cream

• 4 tablespoons mixed seeds, toasted

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Parboil your carrots in boiling, salted water for 10 minutes, until they are very nearly cooked, then drain and put them into a roasting pan. You should flavor them while they're steaming hot, so while the carrots are cooking get a pestle and mortar and smash up the cumin seeds, chillies, salt and pepper. Add the garlic and thyme leaves and smash up again until you have a kind of paste. The idea here is to build up the flavors. Add enough extra virgin olive oil to generously cover the paste, and a good swig of vinegar. This will be like a marinade, a rub and a dressing all in one! Stir together, then pour over the carrots in the pan, coating them well. Add the orange and lemon halves, cut-side down. These will roast along with the carrots, and their juice can be used as the basis of the dressing. Place in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until golden.

While the carrots are roasting, halve and peel your avocados, discarding the pits, then cut them into wedges lengthwise and place in a big bowl. Remove the carrots from the oven and add them to the avocados. Carefully, using some tongs, squeeze the roasted orange and lemon juice into a bowl and add the same amount of extra virgin olive oil and a little swig of red wine vinegar. Season, and pour this dressing over the carrots and avocados. Mix together, have a taste and correct the seasoning. Call your gang round the table while you toast or broil your ciabatta slices.

Tear the toasted bread into little pieces and add to the dressed carrot and avocado. Mix together, toss in the salad leaves and cress and transfer to a big platter or divide between individual plates. Spoon over a nice dollop of sour cream, sprinkle over your toasted seeds and drizzle over some extra virgin olive oil.

Happy Monday morning! After a fun-filled weekend going to holiday parties and enjoying a short day trip to Napa with a girlfriend - by the time Sunday rolled around it was time to wrap and prep for Christmas (can you believe it's less than a week away?).

With all of the holiday cheer in the air, I love roaming the Pacific Heights streets to see all of the Christmas lights while catching up with girlfriends and family that come into town - there are so many reasons to smile!

Tis the weekend to finally get my Christmas shopping started and done. I've got my list, checked it twice and I'm ready to hit the San Francisco streets. I think comfy shoes, a nice big scarf and a top knot are in order to get everything accomplished in two days.

My favorite part will be wrapping up all the gifts with beautiful ribbon - this year we're keeping it neutral with a touch of silver.

I am coveting this open shelving while planning out the design for my mom's condo kitchen.

This simple look is perfect to throw on after a hectic morning before going into the office.

Staying in bed just a few more minutes every morning makes all the difference these days. Mostly due to the fact that I don't want to leave my toasty bed.

This step by step photography of these sandwiches has me craving Bun Mee, but in lieu of getting take out I'm going to attempt to make my own.

I've always been a huge fan of displaying accessories - this vignette in particular has me dreaming up how to change my own little corner.

On cold winter nights I always crave a good soup - usually I'm in the mood for Out the Doors Chicken Pho (it's spectacular). I've always wondered if I could make it on my own, but haven't had the courage until I came across this recipe for vegetarian pho which seems quite simple. Here's the recipe . . .

Ingredients:

4 cups good quality low sodium vegetable broth

4 cups water

1 cup dried shiitake mushrooms

3 large shallots, thinly sliced

10 cloves of garlic, peeled and thinly sliced

1″ piece of fresh ginger, thinly sliced into 1/8″ pieces

6 tbsp. light soy sauce

2 tbsp. rice wine vinegar

3 star anise

3 cinnamon sticks

1 small handful thai basil stems & leaves

1 small handful cilantro stems & leaves

1 8 ounce package dried rice noodles

2 cups shredded Napa or Savoy cabbage

2 cups fresh mung bean or soybean sprouts

1/2 cup fresh chopped green onions

1/2 cup roughly chopped or torn Thai basil

1/2 cup roughly chopped cilantro

1 lime, cut into wedges for garnish

Optional for serving: sliced fresh jalapenos, Maggi seasoning, extra soy sauce, Sriracha, hot garlic chili sauce

Directions:

For the broth -

- Place the first 12 ingredients in a large soup pot with a lid. Bring to a boil over medium high heat and then reduce temperature and simmer mostly covered for 1 1/2 hours. Strain through a fine mesh colander to get all the bits out. Return the broth to the pot and bring back to temp over medium heat.

To assemble the soup -

- Cook the rice noodles according to the package – as a default method, cook the noodles in boiling water for 3-4 minutes until tender, drain and rinse with some cool water quickly to stop the cooking. Drain these thoroughly. Evenly distribute the noodles and cabbage between the serving bowls. Ladle the hot broth over the noodles. Top each bowl with some sprouts, basil, cilantro, a sprinkle of green onions and some lime. Serve immediately.

Doesn't this sound delicious? It's definitely going to be on the menu later this week since rain is in the forecast!

Happy Monday! It's a cold and rainy day here in San Francisco, which calls for lots of wool layers and tons of tea. After a hectic wedding weekend filled with love and happiness for the married couple, Sunday was purely devoted to decking the halls with Christmas spirit. Eric and I bought a tiny tree and it now smells and feels like the holiday season in the Flemming household.

Thinking positive thoughts for the week that lies ahead. Life is definitely what you make of it.

Eric and I are always looking for the next homemade pizza to make. When I came across this grilled asparagus and ricotta recipe the other day I knew Eric would want to try it right away - anything with these two ingredients goes right to the top of our weekly menu.

Ingredients

1/4 cup ricotta

1/2 bunch asparagus, grilled

1 tablespoon grated lemon zest

Herb Oil

Basic Grilled Pizza Dough

Directions

1) Heat it up: Set up a grill with heat source, coals or gas, on one side over medium-high. Clean and lightly oil hot grill.

2)Stretch it: On a lightly floured work surface, stretch or roll 1 piece basic grilled pizza dough or 4 ounces store-bought dough into a 10-inch-long oval or other desired shape. Brush one side lightly with herb oil or olive oil and season with coarse salt and ground pepper.

3) Grill it: Using your hands, place dough, oiled side down, directly over heat source. Brush dough with herb oil or olive oil and cook until underside is lightly charred and bubbles form all over top, 1 to 2 minutes. With tongs, flip dough and cook until lightly charred, 1 to 2 minutes. Slide dough to cooler side of grill.

4) Top it: Top with desired cheese and toppings; cover grill. Cook until cheese melts and toppings are heated through, 2 to 5 minutes.

I'll let you know how it turns out. Bon appétit everyone!

It's good to be home - after a whirlwind trip to LA with a visit to the Greystone Mansion to see the Kendall Wilkinson room in person, a fabulous holiday party, and then lunch with Jessica from Destined to Design, it is nice to be back in the Bay Area. When you leave home sometimes your heart grows fonder of the city you live in, that definitely happened for me. As I landed back in San Francisco I got giddy with excitement.

A few things inspiring me this week - the latest copy of The Gentlewoman (it's incredible), photos I took on my iPhone of the Greystone, a YSL purse my dear friend let me borrow (I'm madly in love with it), a notebook and pen I picked up in a cute shop in LA, and delicious caramel that the Thompson Hotel in Beverly Hills were giving out (I'm addicted to them).

What's inspiring you this week? A book? City? Holiday decorations and music? December is such an inspiring month!

Wowza, this week has got the best of me. I feel as though I've been completely MIA on twitter - missing out on a whole lot, but work has been busy busy.

By the time you read this I will be on a plane to LA for the opening day of the Maison de Luxe Greystone Mansion opening. The entire Kendall Wilkinson team will be there to see our room in person - the photos I've seen are stunning. I can't wait to see all of the rooms, mingle with bloggers I haven't seen in awhile, hear a few lectures and then toast to a fabulous team. On Saturday I'm meeting up with Jessica and Fallon for lunch - I can't wait to meet them both! Then I'll be back to SF for a dinner party. Phew, it's going to be a busy little weekend, but it's going to be a blast!

This year I think I'm going to try something non-traditional for a Christmas tree - we're going to place it in a jar. When I came across this image I fell madly in love. Since we can't fit a big tree in our apartment, I think this is the perfect compromise.

I've been having trouble finding spices in my cabinet - love the way these are labeled!

I've been in an all black mood lately - it's probably due to the cooler temperatures.

on the menu: quinoa, butternut squash & kale salad

I'm always looking for a few more go-to recipes. This one seems like the ideal recipe for when I find myself working late. Plus, who doesn't love butternut squash?

Enjoy!

Quinoa Salad:

Makes 4 to 6 servings as a main dish.

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups quinoa
3 cups water
2 teaspoons olive oil, divided
1 onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 1/2 cups peeled, cored and diced butternut squash
1 1/2 cups roughly chopped kale (previously washed and cleaned)
2 teaspoons fresh thyme, chopped
vinaigrette (recipe below)

Directions:
In a large pot, bring the quinoa and water to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer, covered until all the water has been absorbed (about 20 minutes). Remove from the heat, fluff with a for and place in a large bowl to cool for 20 minutes.

In the meantime, heat one teaspoons olive oil in a large skillet, add the onion and cook until it turns translucent. Add the garlic, butternut squash and kale. Cover with a lid and cook for about 10 minutes on medium-low heat. Remove the lid, check that the butternut squash is tender but not mushy or hard when you poke a piece with a knife. Add the thyme and continue cooking until the all the liquid creating by the cover has evaporated.

Let cool to room temperature. Gently fold the cooked quinoa and the cooked vegetables together along with the vinaigrette.
Serve room temperature or cold.

French Vinaigrette:

Makes about 1/4 cup (60 ml), enough for one large green salad.

Ingredients:

1/8 teaspoon sea salt
1 tablespoon sherry or red wine vinegar
1/2 small shallot, peeled and minced (about 1 tablespoon)
1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
3T to 4T (45 ml to 60 ml) olive oil

fresh herbs, if desired

Directions:

1. In a small bowl, mix together the salt, vinegar, and shallot. Let stand for about ten minutes.

2. Mix in the Dijon mustard, then add 3 tablespoons (45 ml) of olive oil. Stir well, then taste. If too sharp, add the additional olive oil and more salt, if necessary. Romain said one needs to add beaucoup de mustard, so feel free to add more as well.

If you wish to add fresh herbs, it’s best to chop and mix them in shortly before serving so they retain their flavor.

This past Sunday my mom and I set out to look for condo's in San Francisco - she's in the midst of moving here. When we came across a perfect abode for her (fingers crossed everything falls into place) we started dreaming up a few renovations, especially the bathroom. We kept talking about white, white, white.

After envisioning how I would redesign the bathroom I started sifting through my stacks of glossies to pull together my vision. When I came across this stunning bathroom done by Barbara Sallick in House Beautiful the search was over. This bathroom is perfection with the white tones, stunning pedestal sink and glossy subway tiles, and to top it all off, a French tri-fold mirror. I'm madly in love with it and wishing I could do this in my rental.

Rise and shine - it's Monday! After four days off from work and my computer I'm completely rejuvenated to dive head first into a busy work schedule and holiday gatherings. This week is going to be extra hectic - friends visiting from out of town and a short work trip to LA.

A few things inspiring me this week - a stunning book I picked up at Juciy News on Fillmore street (a great gift), a checkered scarf I can't stop wearing, the calligraphy place cards my aunt put together for Thanksgiving dinner and my favorite Astier vase. What's inspiring you this week?

It's exciting having the holidays in full swing - decorations need to be hung, presents are found for the perfect person and party invitations are rolling in.

Thanksgiving is truly magical - families coming together from across the country, delicious food that has been made with care, laughter, love, happiness and health. I have so much to be grateful for this year - a supportive husband, a supportive family, and a job that I can't get enough of. on the menu: roast brussels sprouts

One of my favorite sides at Thanksgiving is brussels sprouts - they are heavenly. It's the perfect side to the traditional turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and cranberry sauce. I usually roast them in the oven with a little olive oil and pepper but this recipe caught my eye so I'm going to give it a whirl.

Ingredients:

300g (10oz) brussels sprouts

2 tablespoons fish sauce

1 tablespoon sherry vinegar or rice wine vinegar

1/2 teaspoon chilli flakes

small handful pinenuts, optional

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 400F. And get an oven-proof skillet or frying pan on a high heat.

2. Trim the bases of your sprouts and halve lengthwise.

3. Add a few tablespoons oil to the pan and add the sprouts. Cook for a few minutes or until they start to smell good.

4. Transfer to the oven and continue cooking for 10-15 minutes or until sprouts are tender and well caramelised on the side facing down.

5. Meanwhile, mix fish sauce, vinegar, chilli and 1 tablespoon water. Season to taste with a few pinches of sugar.

6. Toss hot brussels sprouts in the dressing and serve with pinenuts, if using.

Thanksgiving is just a few short days away (I'm counting down the hours and minutes). Although I'm not hosting this year, I've been cooking up my families delicious cranberry sauce (recipe here). This year I made three batches - yes, I'm a cranberry sauce-aholic and I have to be sure there are leftovers for the next day.

When thinking about what to wear this year I wanted something comfy and chic. A grey knit sweater with a camel coat is one of my favorite color combinations this season - then spicing it up with a pair of Dries heels and a fur scarf makes it the perfect amount of chic.

What are all of you thinking of wearing for Thanksgiving this year? I can't wait to be on the road to my aunt and uncle's.

After an incredible Saturday photographing our apartment the rest of the weekend was all about enjoying some time at home due to the rainy weather. It was delightful.

A few things inspiring me this week - the first issue of Kinfolk was the perfect read before Thanksgiving, blooms for the house (anemones and paper whites), and lastly a trip to Heath Ceramics to pick up a few presents and some dish ware for the apartment.

I hope all of you have a lovely week ahead whether you're prepping for Thanksgiving, traveling to visit family or staying close to home. I can't wait for the holiday weekend - it's going to be so fun!

I can't tell you how excited I am that the weekend has finally arrived. Tonight I'll be prepping the house for a photo shoot on Saturday (very excited about this one!). Flowers have been purchased, different outfit options have been laid out and I hope that by the time I hit my pillow tonight our apartment will smell super clean.

After the shoot it's going to be all about catching up with friends, doing a little fall shopping, and since rain is in the forecast, I think snuggling up at home with a cup of tea and a good book is needed.

Finding a cozy corner to sip tea and read my stack of magazines has been one of my favorite pastimes.

On the menu for this weekend - this yummy soup from Sprouted Kitchen. I can't wait to try it. It's been on my to-make list for a while.

These chairs have my heart. I'm madly in love with them. Aren't they divine?

There's nothing better than a well-styled chunky sweater. I've tried to master the look year after year. This one in particular is ultra chic with the skinny black belt.

comfort food . . .

Since the air is growing cooler all I want to eat at night is comfort food. So, I've been turning to My Baking Addiction for inspiration in the kitchen. From soup, to pastas, to baked goods - this blog has it all and let me tell you, each recipe I've made is better than the last.

On the menu for this week, Mac and Cheese with Roasted Chicken, Goat Cheese, and Rosemary - I have a feeling it's going to be heavenly.

INGREDIENTS:

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 pound dried rigatoni
1 quart heavy cream
2 tablespoons chopped fresh rosemary
1 clove fresh garlic, crushed
8 ounces goat cheese
2 cups shredded roasted chicken
salt and pepper to taste

DIRECTIONS:

1. Place a large pot of salted water over high heat and bring to a rapid boil. Add the oil and rigatoni to the water and cook according to the directions on the package, 10-12 minutes.

2. While you are waiting for the water to boil, pour the cream into a large sauce pan over medium heat. Add the rosemary and garlic to the cream and bring it to a simmer - take care not to let it boil over. Allow the cream to reduce by about half.

3. Stir in the goat cheese and chicken and continue cooking it till the cream coats the back of a spoon.

4. Thoroughly drain the pasta. Add the pasta to the sauce. Coat the pasta in the sauce and simmer over low heat for a few minutes. Serve hot.

Today, I fell head over heels for this dining room - the white walls, the beautiful chairs (be still my heart), the clean lined table, and then the beautiful branches that give the room life. Everything is perfection! Whenever I see stunning dining rooms like this one, it always gives me the urge to completely redecorate ours.

This dining room is definitely going straight to the top of my "dream house" inspiration file.

After a peaceful weekend with girlfriends up in the woods - I realized how important it is to get out of the city sometimes to slow down your life to enjoy the outdoors and some downtime.

A few things inspiring me this week - I had the pleasure of reading the brand new Anthology and it's amazing (I couldn't put it down), I found this old necklace in my closet that I got at the Alameda flea market a couple years ago (it's definitely going to be making more appearances in my ensembles), with the cooling temps it means that it's scarf season (my favorite accessory), and lastly spending time at CARROTS this week got me utterly inspired - every piece of clothing in the store is on my wish list.

Hope all of you had a fabulous weekend. I've got a hectic week ahead of me, but I'm ready to take it on after this relaxing weekend.

I'm off to the Russian River for a much anticipated girls weekend. I can't wait to put on my comfies, catch up with my besties, cook hearty, cold weather meals, and lounge by the fire. It's going to be so incredibly rejuvenating!
