Beauty at the Edge of the City

When summer arrives I try to take a little time out of my normal hectic work schedule to enjoy where I live. And most importantly, take advantage of the diversity that we have at our fingertips within San Francisco. When you live at the edge of a continent, there are so many places you can visit. How many cities can boast some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, as well as redwood trees that grow to be giants? When you live in a city like this one, you have to constantly remind yourself to take advantage of all that it has to offer.

At the beginning of the summer, I set goals of what I want to see in the city and its surroundings. Last summer, I focused upon the neighborhoods I didn’t know well – the Mission, North Beach, Chinatown, and Noe Valley. This summer, my goal is to visit the natural areas – beaches, forests, eucalyptus groves, and SF bay. Many of these places are easy to get to, but once you are there, you have to struggle to compete for the small number of parking spaces – competing with folks from town and tourists from around the world.

Recently, I’ve taken to using Uber to avoid the parking drama. One of my favorite adventures, was to go for a visit to the Sutro Baths, a hike through Lands End, and then capped it off with brunch at the Cliff House. I took advantage of upfront pricing with Uber. By using this feature, the ETA and what the cost would be (it was a flat rate). No more hassle – now I can take advantage of places I want to visit without the struggle!

Looking out on the Pacific Ocean, I dream of my next adventure in a faraway land. But until then, I will continue to find adventures in my own backyard. I’m already planning my next adventure: to Muir Woods and the lovely giant redwoods. Do you have any adventures you are planning to do in your city this summer?

This post is a partnership with Uber. All opinions are my own. Thanks for supporting sponsored posts that keep Sacramento Street doors open.
